Grand Rapids-based nonprofit organization Artists Creating Together (ACT) is seeking professional, gallery-ready artwork in any medium by artists with disabilities. This artwork will be showcased in the ACTion Art exhibit, March 29-31, 2016, at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.

ACTion Art is an exhibit that is uniquely designed to empower adult artists with disabilities to show their art in a professional gallery format, and to market and sell their work in the larger community. “This was our 4th year participating and I have seen real growth in my son since our first experience,” shared one parent after last year’s exhibit. “ACT [provides] students with such unique and inspiring opportunities that take them out of their daily routines and into the great big wide world.”

Two awards will be given away during ACTion Art. The first is Juror’s Choice, in which three artists will be selected by a juried vote and receive a $300 cash prize.  Juror’s Choice winners will also move forward to compete as ACTion ArtPrize artists in ArtPrize 2016 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The second award is People’s Choice, in which one artist will choose between either a $100 cash prize or 2 free ACT classes, valued at $150.

Last year’s Juror’s Choice winners were Morgaine Fambrough, Michael Johnson, and Phil Siegel.  The artwork was collectively displayed in the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, where they were viewed by hundreds of visitors and recognized as ACTion Artists. “It was a really good experience,” Phil Siegel shared about his experience as an ACTion Artist last year. “There were a variety of artists and I learned more about my own art.”

To enter, artists must register by 5 pm on Friday, March 4, 2016, and artwork entries must be delivered to ACT no later than 4:30 pm on Thursday, March 24, 2016. To participate, artists must register through the ACTion Art Exhibit webpage (bit.ly/1EW91wf) or call ACT to request a mailed form.  All registered entries are accepted, subject to the ACTion Art Guidelines (also found on the website). No entry fee is required.
