WYCE 88.1 FM, Grand Rapids’ listener sponsored radio station is returning to The Intersection on February 9, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. to host the eighteenth annual celebration of local and regional music. The event features 24 live music performances and 20 awards given to the best music released in the past year. Various awards are selected by WYCE programmers, critics, and by community voting. The event is made possible by Lead Sponsor, Founders Brewing.

The Jammies event is a moment where the community gathers to take pride in the past years accomplishment in the regional music community. WYCE Station Manager Quinn Mathews is very excited, “Jammies 19!! So much music, so little time, so let’s throw it all together in one night! Looking forward to seeing everyone out at The Intersection Feb 9 for THE music event of West Michigan, celebrating all the local music released throughout 2017!”

WYCE has also included a food drive at the Jammies for Feeding America West Michigan since 2010, and in that time the event has provided thousands of meals for local families.
“Over the past 7 years, Feeding America West Michigan has had the privilege of being the food donation recipient for the annual WYCE Jammies! Through the kindness of event attendee’s, our organization is able to bring hunger relief to those in need within our community.” says Sean Little, Development Manager of FAWM. “As we gear up for this year’s event, we welcome any donation of non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, peanut butter and cereal. We so appreciate your support and look forward to another amazing year at the WYCE Jammies!”

A full list of needed items can be found at FeedWM.org/Drive.

The Jammie awards serves as a way to highlight, support, and celebrate local and underserved musicians in the community. John Sinkevics, WYCE Programmer and host of the show Local Spins says, “Every year, The Jammie Awards show stands out as one of the best nights of the year for Michigan's music scene. What's not to like? With dozens of regional acts playing two stages, folks get a chance to see more local bands and solo artists in one night than most will see in several months. And musicians come to watch other musicians, turning this into an evening of wonderful camaraderie as well as a celebration of the best local and regional albums of the year. Believe me, bands are as excited about being nominated and being part of this event as much as anything they'll do all year.”

WYCE programs an eclectic mix of music programmed by volunteers, public service announcements for nonprofits, and underwriting for businesses all year round. It is a 10,000 watt broadcast at 88.1 FM and streams online at WYCE.org. WYCE is a service of the Community Media Center and is dedicated to building community through media. Attendees are encouraged to come in their favorite pajamas.

Station Manager Quinn Mathews adds, "The music scene of west Michigan is so inspiring. Seeing how all the bands and the industry support one another, and how much they support our radio station. Every band we asked to perform was immediately excited to be involved and promoting the show like crazy. It's going to be insane at The Intersection this year, and remember these bands are volunteering their time all for the sake of WYCE, so please go support them at their merchandise tables! Speaking of community support, the help we get from businesses and organizations in this community to put this show in and really to survive all year is unreal. A huge thanks to our friends at Founders Brewery, OnStage Services, The Intersection, Aria Technology, our fellow GRCMC departments and colleagues, and many many more that help us! Also a HUGE thanks to all of our volunteer programmers, listeners, and supporters for keeping community radio alive and thriving in 2018!"

This event is a fundraiser for WYCE and is made possible by musicians and the generous supporters of local music. $5 suggested donation at the door. Nonperishable food items will be collected to donate to Feeding America West Michigan. The Intersection is located at 133 Grandville Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503
