St. Cecilia Music Center (SCMC) in Grand Rapids has announced their 2017 / 2018 concert season featuring the best musicians in chamber, jazz and folk music. The first concert will be on October 26, 2017 featuring Singer / Songwriter Leo Kottke, legendary acoustic guitarist in the Acoustic Café Folk Series. Highlights for the annual season include the following concerts.

The outstanding Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will perform at SCMC on three dates with CMS Artistic Directors Wu Han and David Finckel performing in two of the three concerts. Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center performances include the works of Mozart, Brahms, Dvořák, and Beethovan among other prolific composers works on November 2, 2017, January 18 and April 19, 2018.

SCMC has worked in collaboration with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center since 2012.  SCMC Executive Director Cathy Holbrook said, “SCMC is pleased to continue its partnership with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and its artistic directors David Finckel and Wu Han. As always we choose programs that include David and Wu Han on a program each. This year they also are bringing some new faces to the series to introduce audiences to the next generation of chamber music stars. I’m especially looking forward to the pieces for four-hand piano with Wu Han and Michael Brown in January.”

The eleventh season of SCMC’s Jazz Series is appropriately entitled “The Encore Season” as it brings back favorite performers from the past 10 years. Holbrook commented, “This is going to be a jazz series for the record books at St. Cecilia Music Center! We thought during our eleventh season of Jazz it would be great to bring some of our favorite artists from the first 10 years back for what we are calling our ‘Encore Season’.”

This special season will feature four concerts with the best jazz artists on the world stage, who have all appeared at SCMC and received outstanding accolades: GRAMMY-winning bassist Christian McBride will perform on November 16, 2017; Contemporary Jazz pianist Brad Mehldau will appear on November 30, 2017; GRAMMY-winning vocalist Gregory Porter will perform on February 22, 2018; and multi-GRAMMY nominated baritone vocalist Kurt Elling will appear on March 22, 2018.

The Acoustic Café Series, in partnership with the syndicated radio show of the same name, will continue in 2017-18 with two blockbuster artists who are well-known to music lovers.

“Since its inception, the Acoustic Café Folk Series has continued to expand its offerings bringing some of today’s up and coming artists, as well as some of the veterans of the singer/songwriter genre. For our 2017/2018 season, we currently have two artists booked who represent generations of great music making – the return of guitar legend Leo Kottke on October 26, 2017 and the renowned and beloved singer Judy Collins on February 1, 2018. Stay tuned for more exciting shows to be announced as the season approaches,” said Holbrook.
