In this week’s segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, Young Leaders Against Violence (YLAV) mentors Amy Endres-Bercher and Julia Raap discuss the importance of violence awareness and education for teens. You’ll also hear from YLAV teens who share how being involved has impacted them and why they think other youth should join this advocacy effort.

YLAV is a local, youth-led coalition focused on awareness and prevention of dating and sexual violence. After hearing that teens were requesting this type of education in their schools, several community partners, Cherry Health, Kent County Health Department, Family Futures, Safe Haven Ministries, and YWCA West Central Michigan, came together to create and oversee the coalition.

“It’s really cool that there’s a group of teens talking about anti-violence and how to prevent violence,” said Amber, YLAV teen. “I think it’s really important to include teens in the solution.”

Watch the NPO Showcase segment above to learn more about YLAV. If you’re a teen who wants to help eliminate violence in our community, visit the YLAV website and apply to join this school year. Applications are being accepted until October 30.

Check back next Wednesday for a new segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, featuring 3:11 Youth Housing.
