To keep up with KCPC...

The easiest way to become involved with the KCPC is by "liking" their newly launched Facebook page, where you will be able to easily keep track of all of the things the coalition has planned and coming up in your community.

Since its formation in 2006, the Kent County Prevention Coalition has certainly made a name for itself. The KCPC aims to provide the community with resources and information to prevent harmful substance use among the youth population here in Kent County. Its track record includes a $625,000 grant from the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy and Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration and winning the 2011 'Best Activity of the Year' award presented by Students Against Destructive Decisions for their "Above the Influence - Kent County" movie.

Most recently on Aug. 23, the coalition was presented with the 'Coalition of the Year Award' by Michigan Coalition to Reduce Underage Alcohol Use, making KCPC the first coalition to ever receive such distinction, and there seems to be no plans to stop there. Coming up, the KCPC will be hosting their annual Family Day, a free family dinner which will include live entertainment from A.B. & Coconut Brown, face painting, arts and crafts, games and giveaways. It is scheduled to be held from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the John Ball Zoo Park-Picnic Area (1300 W. Fulton), hosted by Emily Richett from Fox 17.

KCPC's Annual Meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Sept. 27 at the GVSU Eberhard Center (301 W. Fulton), and the community is invited to attend. Those who attend will enjoy a hot breakfast and learn about opportunities with the coalition to improve life in the greater Grand Rapids area.
