Atrocities is based on the 85 prints in Fransico Goya’s Disasters of War. Seah seeks to investigate the pleasure of viewing a still image by animating it within one’s mind. Applying a queer lens to this set of artifacts, a collection of phrases overheard from other homosexual males has been included, re-contextualizing the representation of suffering in Goya’s work. His work will be exhibited at UICA: December 11-January 22.

Joel is currently a professor at the University of Southern Maine. He received his BFA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and an MFA from Syracuse University.
