Drew Storey, content facilitator for The Rapidian

Drew Storey, content facilitator and editorial mentor for The Rapidian, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 18th.

Drew, 31, was one of the first community members who volunteered to envision and design the new Grand Rapids citizen journalism platform. A committed supporter of civic engagement and free speech, he previously served on the Grand Rapids Community Media Center Board of Directors.

With The Rapidian, Drew first took on the role of leading the editorial committee to try and ensure open and yet, responsible policies. An experienced journalist, he served as a volunteer editorial mentor for new citizen reporters and most recently, was hired by the Community Media Center as the new content facilitator for The Rapidian. His first editorial in that role is available in the opinion section. It speaks to his hopes and expectations for Rapidian content and its value to the community.

Drew leaves behind his loving wife, Danielle and young daughters Madison and Taylor. Complete obituary and memorial service details can be found here on MLive.

In the coming days, The Rapidian will post additional information, including how the community can make contributions to help with expenses and provide support to the family.

The Rapidian, a program of the 501(c)3 nonprofit Community Media Center, relies on the community’s support to help cover the cost of training reporters and publishing content.

We need your help.

If each of our readers and content creators who values this community platform help support its creation and maintenance, The Rapidian can continue to educate and facilitate a conversation around issues for years to come.

Please support The Rapidian and make a contribution today.
