Cesar Vargas, a two-year member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth, traveled to Ann Arbor this past weekend to compete for the title of Michigan Youth of the Year. During the competition, he attended the “Recipe for Success” workshop sponsored by Darden Restaurants, Inc. Foundation on pursuing a postsecondary education. This highly interactive, two-hour workshop assisted the participants in exploring potential career paths and areas of study; provided tools and resources for academic planning; and helped them to develop financial management skills and research tips for scholarship funding sources. The workshop included content from three of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s top national programs – CareerLaunch, Goals for Graduation and Money Matters. Now, Cesar is set to receive a $2,000 college scholarship from Darden Restaurants, Inc. Foundation.
