Farming has become sort of a lost art to some. What was once passed down amongst families has slowed down a bit, and many corporations are farming as well. However, Visser Farms out of Zeeland is carrying on the business. Visser Farms has been around since 1902.

"I'm a fifth generation farmer," Case Visser said. Case also noted that he's been farming his whole life.

Visser Farms has one of the larger stands at the Fulton Street Farmers Market, and they definitely need the space.

"We grow about 199 different varieties of things - potatoes to lettuce to carrots, spinach, all that," Visser said. "Strawberries in the spring, flowers, all of that stuff."

Although Visser Farms is located in a state where snow can reign supreme for half the year, that doesn't stop their growing season one bit.

"Our growing season typically is from May through November, and then we start up in our greenhouse with kale, basil, and other lettuces in the greenhouse as well," Visser said.

Visser also spoke about the people that visit the market, and how the hard work pays off hearing about their expereineces with their food.

"The people, especially the ones who really love food, and love good food, are happy when they try out different recipes and they like what they get," he said. "They come back and tell you their story about what they cooked with and what they used when they used your products. It's really rewarding to see that they were very happy with it."

Five generations and 115 years of farming has paid off for Visser Farms. Stop by the Fulton Street Farmers Market and see which one of their 199 things they grow could be best suited for you.
