Mayor Heartwell to run for third term

Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell has announced that he will seek a third term for the city leadership position.  The mayor disclosed his intentions to GRTV's “City Connection” and in a formal announcement Tuesday morning.

Heartwell first took office January 1st, 2004, taking over from longtime mayor John Logie, who decided not to seek another term. The mayor’s position is a part time post. Heartwell also serves as President and CEO of Pilgrim Manor Retirement Community.

If re-elected, Heartwell would begin his third term in January 2012.

The Rapidian, a program of the 501(c)3 nonprofit Community Media Center, relies on the community’s support to help cover the cost of training reporters and publishing content.
