Poetry Workshop: Linda Nemec Foster and Dianne Carroll Burdick

Sunday, April 26, 2015

3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Great Lakes Commonwealth of Letters is offering a workshop led by award-winning poet Linda Nemec Foster with photographer Dianne Carroll Burdick on Sunday, April 26, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. This workshop will explore how the collaboration between the interdisciplinary arts, such as poetry, music, and visual arts, influence the dynamic of the creative process.

Here's what Ms. Nemec Foster has to say about her collaboration with Ms. Burdick: "Dianne and I created "The Good Earth" exhibit which combined my poetry and her landscape photography.  This work was later accepted for publication by Eerdmans and was short listed for the Michigan Notable Book Award in 2007.  For many years, we have done presentations on the process of collaboration and our GLCL workshop would emphasize the writing of ekphrastic poems (poetry inspired by the visual arts).  The participants would be given prompts and exercises to write poems that are informed by images created by some of the world's most famous photographers.  They would "collaborate" with these artists to explore how their poems can achieve a deeper resonance when the text is influenced by another art form."

Space is limited to 12 participants and the fee is $40.  You can register online via PayPal using this link; please be sure to note for which workshop you're registering in the "Special instructions to seller" section (you don't have to have a PayPal account to pay online).   You may also mail your registration to our Writers' Hub: GLCL, 758 Wealthy St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
