Grand Rapids, MI – Weed & Seed is calling all the community residents to help spread kindness throughout Grand Rapids’ Southeast site for its second annual Random Acts of Kindness Day (RAK) on Saturday, June 19.

“During our Random Acts of Kindness Day, we are encouraging individuals and groups to participate in any way to help make a positive difference in the lives of residents and community in Southeast Grand Rapids,” says Director, Kristine Jaros. “As part of our outreach, the community is invited to join us for a free lunch at Neland Avenue Christian Reformed Church at 940 Neland SE at 11:30 am -- We even have free t-shirts for participants!”

Jaros continues to explain, “Throughout the day, various acts of kindness will be taking place across the community. Examples of activities that will take place this year include: a blood drive at Neland from 12-3pm, face painting and reading to youth, algebra and computer help for teens, cleanup of a park including planting flowers, neighborhood trash cleanups and nursing home visits.”

Event participants or groups are asked to prepare an activity that impacts Southeast Grand Rapids before the 19th. “Please let our office know of your efforts prior to the event so we have record of your participation,” requests Jaros. Citizens may offer their contribution before or after the 11:30 am lunch.

Acts of kindness do not have to be expensive or very time consuming, and a small act of generosity can go a long way. “We are seeking organizations, groups, families and individuals that want to help the community and put a smile on someone’s face,” says Weed & Seed volunteer, Ryan VanderMeer.

Weed & Seed is a community-based multi-agency approach to "weed" out drug trafficking, gangs, violent crimes and related offenses through coordinated law enforcement and community policing; and "seed" the designated area with prevention, intervention and treatment programs and neighborhood restoration programs designed to meet the communities' needs.
