Kent County Board of Commissioners holds meeting on Thursday

On Thursday, the Kent County Board of Commissioners held a meeting at the Kent County Administration Building in Grand Rapids. The meeting was scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.

After roll call was taken, Commissioner Ivan Diaz (District 20) gave an invocation. The invocation was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a special order of business. Janelle Vandergrift, the Food Policy Coordinator for the Kent County Food Policy Council, gave a brief presentation about a Food System Assessment that is currently underway (in collaboration with New Venture Advisors, Inc.). According to the executive summary available on the Kent County Food Policy Council's website:

"The Kent County Food Policy Council commissioned this assessment to better understand the potential opportunities and current barriers that exist within the regional food system."

Seven resolutions were also listed on the meeting agenda:

  • "Office of Global Michigan Refugee Services Grant Program / Health Department"
  • "Michigan Health Endowment Fund (MHEF) Health Equity Capacity Building Grant / Health Department"
  • "Michigan Health Endowment Fund (MHEF) P3: Parks, People, Produce Grant / Health Department"

  • "West Michigan Welcome Plan Annual Global Gathering Event / Administrator's Office"
  • "State of Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity Regional Collaboration Grant / Administrator's Office"

Grand Rapids Public Museum announces upcoming 2023 Mighty Wurlitzer Theater Organ Concert Series

On Monday, the Grand Rapids Public Museum (GRPM) sent out a press release to announce that the 2023 Mighty Wurlitzer Theater Organ Concert Series will begin on Friday, Oct. 20.

Organist John Lauter will be playing the Mighty Wurlitzer alongside a screening of Metropolis, a silent science-fiction film from 1927. Ticketing information is available on the GRPM's website

According to the press release, the Museum will also be hosting "additional organ concerts... on December 15 and 16 for the Holiday Classics series."
