After taking place in a local garage last year, Grand Rapids’ underground favorite, Michigan Meltdown, is back at the DAAC.

“[It] has been willing to host subversive ideas amidst a larger collection of people and cultures for nearly a decade,” says Meltdown co-organizer, Kame Okotte. Okotte also notes the importance of Michigan Meltdown for Grand Rapids’ and West Michigan’s sizable anarchist, punk community.

“While sound tends to be what people gravitate toward first, the collections of bands to usually play Meltdown tend to have a bit more ideological substance,” he says.

This year’s fest features a mix of 10 local, national and international thrash, grindcore and hardcore bands.

Sete Star Sept from Tokyo highlights the event as the sole international act.

“One of the best grind bands on planet earth right now [is Sete Star Sept],” says Kevin Kitchel of The Oily Menace.

“[I’m] excited [Michigan Meltdown] is back at the DAAC. The show should provide “literally something for every nobody,” says Kitchel.
