In this week’s segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, Dr. Monique Salinas and Dr. Daniel Stauffer from Mind Meets Music discuss how the organization is using music to boost academic performance and literacy skills in underprivileged student populations.

Mind Meets music focuses on preschool through second grade students to increase engagement throughout their educational careers. By working directly with area schools, Mind Meets Music programs are brought directly to the classroom. The 30 minute in-class sessions do not replace existing music programs, but are focused on using art to connect students with their general education and literacy growth.

Mind Meets Music partners with the United States Department of Education and WestEd for performance evaluation and program reach. Data collected from participating schools shows achievement beyond the projected performance growth. Between positive educator feedback for its programs, and a number of community awards, Mind Meets Music is poised to expand and reach more students and schools in the coming years. To learn more about Mind Meets Music's approach, watch the NPO Showcase segment, and attend the Arts Alive event on August 9 at Grand Valley State University.

Check back next Wednesday for a new segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, featuring North Kent Connect.
