The Blue Bridge Music Festival takes place this coming weekend, September 29 and 30, on the blue pedestrian bridge, an ArtPrize Nine venue, between Fulton Street and Pearl Street bridges over the Grand River.

This event mixes the more graphic arts with the unpredictable sounds of multiple genres of music. From 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, September 29, and 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, September 30, listen to the amazing quality and wide variety of music West Michigan artists perform while experiencing the visual arts as you walk to ArtPrize sites around the Blue Bridge.

The lineup sponsored by HopCat and WYCE includes the following performance times. Each day WYCE will have a live broadcast preceding the performances directly from the Blue Bridge:

Friday, September 29:

·         5:00 Yolonda Lavender (Soul/R&B)

·         7:00 The Bootstrap Boys (County)

·         9:00 Michigander (Rock/Pop)

Saturday, September 30:

·         2:00 Brad Fritcher Moods (Jazz)

·         4:00 Asamu Johnson & The Associates of the Blues (Blues)

·         5:30 Jesse Ray & The Carolina Catfish (Rock/Blues)

·         7:00 Watching For Foxes (Folk/Pop)

·         8:45 The Great ones (Hip Hop)

All participating musicians at the two-day festival are eligible for the ArtPrize Nine public vote competition in the time-based category. The ArtPrize public will also award an additional prize. By casting their votes through the ArtPrize mobile app, visitors will award a single artist the distinction of ‘ArtPrize Song of the Year’ and a $1,000 cash prize, presented by HopCat. More information is available at www.artprize.org.

In addition to the music and other ArtPrize venues close to the Blue Bridge, you can indulge in the beer garden area on the Blue Bridge orchestrated by Hopcat on both Friday and Saturday - 21 years or older, of course.

Quinn Mathews, Station Manager at WYCE and host of GR Live every Thursday on WYCE, said, “As our tagline is at WYCE ‘A World of Music,' This event is literally ‘A World of Music’ on the Blue Bridge in downtown Grand Rapids, all with musicians from right here in West Michigan. Jazz, Soul, Country, Rock, Hip Hop, and all for free!" Contact www.wyce.org for more information.
