SMF grant review is underway!

The curtains are drawn, the applications are in, and the evaluation process for the Southtown Matching Fund has begun. Our Neighborhood Services Department received a number of applications from a variety of nonprofits and grassroots neighborhood organizations ranging in focus from capacity training and arts and crafts to gang intervention and community policing.  The Southtown Matching Fund supports projects and activities that unite and build stronger communities through neighborhood based projects. The diverse variety of initiatives proposed is vital when dealing with the multi-faceted needs of our community.  Lighthouse is very passionate about using the Southtown Matching Fund as a tool for empowering residents with the economic resources needed to turn ideas into action.

The Southtown Matching Fund is made possible by the City of Grand Rapids block grant dollars. Due to funding criteria, we are unable to fund all proposals including those for food and entertainment. The initial selections and recommendations are made by the Neighborhood Services department based on these criteria, and then sent to an Oversight Committee. The committee seeks out organizations and initiatives focusing on public safety, housing issues, increased neighborhood based leadership and involvement.

We would like to thank the participants who submitted proposals for the Southtown Matching Fund.  The projects chosen by the Neighborhood Services department and approved by the Oversight Committee will be announced soon!
