About the Major Case Team

The Major Case Team is the branch of the Grand Rapids Police Department that handles all cases of serious assaults, including murders, shootings, and stabbings. It also handles assaults where there is a potential of serious injury.

Some questions answered regarding Tuesday night’s altercation courtesy of Sgt. Chris Postma of the Grand Rapids Police Department’s Major Case Team.

According to Sgt. Postma, an argument culminated in a physical altercation between two men who knew each other. The fight led to the hospitalization of one party, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

While there is a known suspect in the incident, no formal charges have been authorized by the Kent County prosecutor because it was deemed that both parties were equally responsible. Both men suffered injuries.
