The Rapidian gets very local, weekly

We've created a weekly newsletter for our readers that will provide a chance to see at a glance some of the most noted stories of the week. But it's not just a list of stories anymore!

Each week, a Rapidian staffer will publish a piece related to goings-on at The Rapidian, developments in the world of citizen journalism and tips for making the most of the site.Click here for past editorials.

Since the beginning of The Rapidian's life over two years ago, we've been sending out a weekly digest that provided you with a complete list of the last week's stories. However, we realize this could be pretty hard to weed through. With the advent of a full chronological archive now available on our site, we decided it was time for our weekly email to provide more.

Tomorrow, if you have signed up to receive the weekly, you'll get your first peek at just how much "more" we're talking about. But I thought I'd let you know a bit about it ahead of time so you didn't end up missing our inaugural edition.

Community Conversation: At the top of each weekly, there will be a "Community Conversation" article. This will be one article from the past week that really has the community talking. There will be a Facebook comment button, making it super easy to join the conversation right there from your email.

Worth a Second Look: There's always that story that for whatever reason flew under the radar... but probably shouldn't have. We'll highlight one each week that you really don't want to miss.

Photo of the Week: Every weekday, we highlight a great photo from our community of photogs contributing to our Rapidian Flickr pool. In our weekly, we'll pick what we think is so good it should get the "Photo of the Week" honor. Be sure to add your photos to our pool to get your image-making skills in the running.

Tricks of the Trade: Everyone has a great story to tell- an important story to tell. I'm convinced. But sometimes, we need a little insider info to help us make sure our story is told well. Our "Tricks of the Trade" column will connect you to instructional videos, insider opinions, and all sorts of tools that you can use to bolster your confidence as a citizen journalist (or your savvy as a Rapidian consumer!). Whether you're writing, creating videos or photo essays or creating a whole new way of telling your community's story, we want to be sure we're equipping you well to do just that. Let us know if there are any tools or skills in particular you'd like to know more about!

Bullet List: Of course, we couldn't fit it all into just three articles and a photo. So for those of you who want more, the Bullet List is your access point to our short list. Of course, for those of you who want it all, we'll have a spot for you to jump right to the full list of the most recent content.

And that's it! Just a quick window into the conversation happening over the past week... sent directly to you every Tuesday. Sign up to make sure you don't miss our first edition of the new weekly.
