St. Cecilia Music Center in Grand Rapids is proud to bring  Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra to Royce Auditorium on Thursday, April 14 for a rousing night of big band favorites. With his established prolific music career, the acclaimed trombonist, composer and producer Delfeayo Marsalis has been praised for his “technical excellence, inventive mind and frequent touches of humor.”  He has also been heralded as one of “the best, most imaginative and musical of the trombonists of his generation.” Marsalis’ commitment to optimism and progressive musical thought coexists in modern New Orleans jazz as a conceptual cornerstone for both the Uptown Jazz Orchestra and their latest cd, Jazz Party. Uptown Jazz Orchestra performances are always a big party, opening and closing their concerts with second line numbers and engaging audiences to participate in the music. Marsalis, an NEA Jazz Master and brother to Wynton and Brandford comes from a long-line of family musicians. He has shared the bandstand with jazz legends Art Blakey, Max Roach and Elvin Jones, as well as pop icons Fats Domino, Ray Charles and George Clinton. Jeff Simon of the Buffalo Newsobserved, " Delfeayo is, in many ways, the most fun of the Marsalis’. He's the family trombonist and record producer…and he seems to be the family wise guy too!"

St. Cecilia Music Center Executive / Artistic Director Cathy Holbrook states “We are looking forward to a great night of jazz and a lively performance by Delfeayo Marsalis and New Orleans dynamic Uptown Jazz Orchestra. Delfeayo and the great musicians in the Uptown Jazz Orchestra will thrill the audience with their big band sound and wonderful stage presence. We look forward to everyone experiencing this exuberant concert and Delfeayo Marsalis up close and live at SCMC on April 14th!”
