The Pere Marquette Steam Locomotive was built in 1941 and boasts a long and interesting career hauling tens of thousands of riders. Most recently, it had a starring role in the 2004 movie, The Polar Express. Thanks to a devoted team of advocates and volunteers, the 1225—rescued from a salvage yard and ultimately donated to Michigan State University in 1957—was returned to its former glory in 1988. Join author, journalist and avid researcher Kevin P. Keefe as he takes the audience on a journey through the life of a World War II-era steam engine. His book, Twelve Twenty-Five—was awarded a State History Award by the Historical Society of Michigan. A book signing will follow the presentation.
